Dr Carla Dukas

Clinical Psychologist  Ph.D. Clin Psy (SU); MA. Clin Psy (Cum Laude) (SU); BA. Hons. Psy (UNISA); BSocSci. Psy (Cum Laude) (UCT)  ?
Works with: Adults and adolescents.
Specialising in: Anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, eating disorders, life changes, loss/grief, relationships, and sexuality and gender.
Working in: English.

Orientation: My professional orientation draws on Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural and Narrative theories. I remain mindful of the fact that a successful therapy requires significant investment in terms of time, energy and money. While there are seldom “quick fixes”, I work hard alongside my patients to ensure that they feel that these investments are worth while.

While I am happy to formally consult on specific issues, I usually work in collaboration with my patients, where our shared aim is to discover, understand and if need be change old psychological patterns. I therefore facilitate both short-term therapies (for specific problems) and longer term work (which allows time for broader exploration and development).

Areas of special interest: My work often involves helping people to navigate difficult life stages (such as the loss of a loved one, a change in job or health status) and other challenges. I have particular interest and experience in working with depression, anxiety, body/eating disorders, and relationship/intimacy difficulties.
