Clinical psychologists treat people with relatively serious kinds of psychological distress, like depression or anxiety disorders. They hold Master’s Degrees in Clinical Psychology and are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
I am a Clinical Psychologist working with adults, adolescents, children and families. I offer emotional assessments as well as medium and long-term therapy. My areas of interest include: - Psychological disorders - Trauma - Emotional distress and adjustment difficulties - Personal exploration and growth - Emotional and behavioural disorders in children - Parenting support
I have a psychodynamic approach to my therapeutic work. I believe that through a collaborative therapeutic relationship a person's own potential for growth, development and positive change can be realised. In order to facilitate therapeutic change, I work with clients to develop a shared understanding of their internal emotional experience, their sense of self, and the ways in which they relate to others and their environment.
It is important to me that there is a good fit between client and therapist. Therapy therefore starts with 2-4 assessment sessions during which clients can get a sense of whether they feel able to talk to me and we can discuss what the client may be needing and what therapeutic intervention I am able to offer them.
Therapeutic interventions for children may include play therapy, family therapy or parenting support.
