Clinical psychologists treat people with relatively serious kinds of psychological distress, like depression or anxiety disorders. They hold Master’s Degrees in Clinical Psychology and are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
I am a clinical psychologist practicing in Sea Point, Cape Town. I work individually with adults who might be feeling overwhelmed or struggling to cope with difficulties that may be related to depression, anxiety, loneliness, loss or bereavement, relationship stress and life changes including those brought on by chronic illness. I primarily make use of Meta-Cognitive Therapy (MCT) for the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders. I also draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic approaches, depending on the specific needs of the client. Each session is collaborative with a specific focus on holding struggle with compassion and on gaining new insights that can lead to constructive changes and an alleviation of distress.
STRUCTURE OF SESSIONS - Our sessions will last 50 minutes and typically take place weekly. Initially, there is a clinical assessment over two to three sessions and thereafter we will discuss a therapeutic plan moving forward.
