Clinical psychologists treat people with relatively serious kinds of psychological distress, like depression or anxiety disorders. They hold Master’s Degrees in Clinical Psychology and are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
I am a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Saxonwold, in the North of Johannesburg. I am also a permanent member of staff at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, where I supervise training psychologists and psychiatrists.
Experiencing problems is part of of being alive. The aim of psychotherapy is to address the pain, suffering, and growth that result from problems and the search for solutions. We are who we are in relation to other people, which is why therapy happens within the relationship between therapist and client. Making the decision to begin therapy can be very difficult, and finding a therapist one feels comfortable with even more so. For this reason I spend the first few sessions focusing not only on the nature of my client's difficulties, but also on whether my client and I feel comfortable working together. I provide therapy in both English and Afrikaans.
I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which aids me in trying to make sense of my clients’ complex internal worlds as this way of working allows for creative and in-depth work.
