I am a clinical psychologist practicing in the Cape Town City Bowl. I offer both long- and short-term psychotherapy to adult individuals and couples. I work with a wide variety of clients: from those experiencing transient emotional distress and relationship difficulties, to those suffering from severe psychological disorders, to those who are looking to embark on a journey of self exploration and personal growth.
I am committed to providing a safe, non-judgemental and empathic environment in which to explore and confront difficulties. My approach is one of collaboration and flexibility. As such, therapy is tailored to suit the individual’s needs, aims, and resources. I work predominantly from a contemporary psychodynamic perspective. This means that together we try to identify and work with issues that may lie underneath the surface of current frustrations or problems. Thus, in addition to exploring how patterns of coping and of relating to oneself and others lead to dissatisfaction and distress, we consider how these patterns were developed and maintained over time. In this way, through the processing of emotion and building of insight within the context of a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship, more helpful patterns can begin to take root and painful feelings are alleviated.
My particular interests include trauma-related issues, addictions, depression and anxiety, as well as interpersonal and relationship difficulties.
