The decision to consult a psychologist can be scary. This is usually due to the fact that most of us have been taught to not express our feelings nevertheless share our problems with a stranger.
In my opinion, it takes immense courage to share your life experiences and be vulnerable with a psychologist. Therefore, it is expected that you might be uncomfortable, defensive or guarded in the intitial therapy sessions.
I use an integrative approach in therapy which means that I utilise different therapeutic modalities in my work. This is due to the fact that I believe that therapy should be tailor made for the specific client. My approach calls for me to spend a significant amount of time learning the client in order to assist me in choosing the best form of treatment for them.
