Counselling psychologists treat people dealing with normal life challenges, such as the loss of a job or divorce. They hold Master’s Degrees in Counselling Psychology and are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
I am a counselling psychologist in Pretoria East who works with individuals (adults and adolescents), couples and groups with a variety of difficulties and life challenges. I am interested in the human condition and the challenges, potentials and limitations inherent. I believe therapy should be a collaborative process, wherein space is created for the individual to explore the aspects of human experience and to facilitate change.
I prefer a non-pathologising and strength affirming approach wherein the individual’s internal and external world is explored to discover meaning and purpose. Working with adult offenders for the past six years have allowed me to learn and experience the extent of the human condition and that finding meaning, understanding and purpose is possible within the darkest of stories.
I work from an integrative approach where the therapeutic process is adjusted to fit the needs of the individual and this is informed but not limited to principles of cognitive, person-centred, relational and existential/depth psychology. My focus is holistic which means an important part of therapy is to engage and develop the person as a whole – incorporating the emotional, mental, social, physical and spiritual dimensions.
Therapy is also for individuals who simply feel they are struggling to find their way, who seeks to make sense of the chaos, who feels something is amiss or out of place, who desire to better understand themselves or who seeks personal development and increased mental well-being.
