Psychiatrists are medical doctors who have specialised in the treatment of mental illness. They often use medication to treat their patients, but are also able to offer psychotherapy. They are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa under the specialist register.
If you come to see me, I work hard and expect you to work harder. Psychiatric care needs to be holistic with a combination of medical care, psychological care and life style change. I pride myself on spending time and effort to get to know the person, not just the disorder. I have then focused on gaining the tools to assist an individual with a up-to-date scientific psychiatric care and/or innovative psychotherapy as well as focused skills training, customised to each individual's needs. I have developed areas of interest and expertise in addictions, trauma work and young adults. I do work with a range of psychiatric conditions, and take pride in my work, as well in recognising my limitations and being open and honest so that you get the best possible care, on not just second best.
