Registered counsellors perform basic counselling for people who are looking to improve their personal functioning. They can also assess to see if a client need more in depth psychological treatment and refer them to the appropriate practitioner. Registered councillors hold honours degrees in psychology.
Marlene Voss is a dedicated counsellor at Recovery Direct and has a keen interest in helping adolescents, adults and families affected by addiction. She has over 30 years counselling experience working both in her own private practice and various NGOs. This includes working with rape victims.
Her viewpoint as an alternative integrative counsellor is to help people find a holistic way to work through trauma, associated anxiety and other co-morbidities by offering various coping methods.
Marlene works not only with the mind but also the body and takes patients through a number of mindfulness exercises, breath work and medication techniques. The somatic relationship between the body and the mind cannot be taken out of the equation if a full recovery is expected.
She also firmly believes in the value of re-establishing positive family ties and re-integration of addicts into society.
